Boquete Tip Sheet:

Care of:
USA: 512-704-6253 or Panama cell: 01-507-6752-9586
Tip 1: Veggies at the farmer’s market are great, cheap, and help the people. Enjoy wonderful salads in Boquete, it’s a unique delicacy compared to the typical Panama fair. Vegetarians can live happily ever after in Boquete.
Tip 2: visit the little bridge in Valley Escondido where the Ultimo Refugio Hostel is located. It’s a great spot for couples. UPDATE: Enter the grounds at Ultimo Refugio. They now have patio furniture right next to the river, and it’s free to enjoy.
Tip 3: Drive the continental divide and visit the San Ramone Waterfall.
Tip 4: Find a horseback riding tour that takes you to the petro glyph rocks in conjunction with the Caldera hot springs. Be sure they bring chalk for the rocks. The hot springs boast a pleasant 500 meter hike, and each spring has different minerals like gold, silver, etc. It’s very interesting to venture down to the river where the water is cold, but the sand is warm!
Tip 5: Some travelers my think the Sabroson Cafeteria is ‘too Panamanian’, but we emphatically disagree. Benefits: REALLY sustainably priced (if you’re thinking of opening a restaurant in Panama, model it after Sabroson); you can point at what you want, virtually everything is good, deserts are good, strawberry milkshakes are incredible (we’ll never go back to McDonalds for another milkshake), and they have very adequate deserts to satisfy the sweet tooth.
Tip 6: Central Park: Located on the left side of the park, Central Park is a favorite hangout spot for those who like a little patio seating to accompany their good sustainably priced food. Lunch: $2.75. Right next to the veggie market.
Tip 7: Cheaper Taxi: The zoning in Boquete is strange. If you take a taxi from the park, it’s $1-$1.50. If, however, you are going just up or down the main road, walk to the corner (3 blocks up from the park) where you’ll see a mini supermarket and a big RED BALBOA BEER sign. This is where you and others can wait for a taxi, and only pay $0.35. What’s the difference? You’re acting like an Insider rather than a pendejo tourist.
