What is a REAL Panama experience?
From this writer’s perspective, it’s very important to maintain the culture wherever you visit. Personally, rather than living a sheltered life in a gated community of foreigners, I think it’s best to be a good neighbor and assimilate. If you know your neighbors, the children, grocer, taxi drivers, and bartenders, you stand an excellent chance of discovering the REAL Panama.
Of course, the most obvious obstacle is learning the language. This is particularly more challenging in Panama vs. Costa Rica or Colombia because Panamanians speak very abbreviated and fast. I can almost always understand a Colombian or Tico before a Panamanian.
The Dutch Keys of San Blas/ Los Cayos Holandeses de San Blas Kuna Yala Panama
Discover the Dutch Keys, where private yachts and sailboats take refuge to dive and fish in this sea of deep transparent turquoise.
The Dutch Keys, located northeast of El Porvenir, San Blas Archipelago, is one of the most intense beaches in Panama or the world. This is a place where the vastness of the turquoise sea blends with the blue sky. There you can practice diving in the reefs, while others entertain themselves by pulling lures to catch tuna, barracuda, red snapper, grouper, dorado fish or saws. The breeze and bright sun accompany the peaceful environment.
“Do You Like Panama?”
The first question I receive from people is “Do you like Panama?” It seems like a pretty straight forward question. Yes, you like Panama. Or, No, you don’t like Panama. Yet, in my years spent here, I’ve yet to develop a quick response. Here’s my best attempt at one. http://www.eyeonpanama.com/panama-the-good-and-the-bad/
2 new Frog species discovered
In an effort to stay ahead of a deadly fungal disease that has wiped out more than 100 frog species, research and conservation agencies have been collecting healthy frogs in areas not yet touched by the fungus. Researchers at The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama state that almost 15 percent of the new frog species discoveries in Panama and Costa Rica have happened within the past seven years. http://biology.about.com/b/2010/06/19/frog-species-discovered-in-panama.htm
