About The Panama Insider

Ellen Ring is a highly creative thinker, organizer, and thorough logistics coordinator. In one word, ‘She’s Interesting to say the least.’
Simply stated, if she doesn’t know, she’ll find out. Favorite quotes include:
‘Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.’- Albert Einstein
‘All things are possible for those who believe all things are possible.’
‘The events that occur in my life are perfectly designed for me to grow in awareness and capability.’
‘All that happens serves to benefit me.’
‘The test if something is perfect is: if it happened, it is.’
These philosophies, provided by Wu Wei’s The I-Ching Handbook, have become cornerstones behind Ellen’s drive, motivation, and commitment to service and excellence.
Ellen was blessed to be raised in the historical Nacogdoches Texas where her extraordinary mother facilitated all of her curiosities and talents. She excelled in Choir, Saxophone, Piano, Debate, Oratory, Science, and Art. Ellen’s connection with Spirit began at age 12 and evolved into a relationship with Buddhism during her early 20s. She holds three associate degrees from Tyler Junior College in Art, Economics, and Biology. While she continued studies at The University of North Texas and Texas State Technical College, there simply was no degree plan that suited all of her skills and talents, so she began her first business as a concert promoter and CEO in the electronic dance music industry. Having enjoyed success collaborating on regular events and massives from 500-40,000 people, the attrocities of 9-11 quickly brought an end to stable mass gatherings in music. Finding that she could get no justice working for the man, (MCI & Apple) Ellen married her long-time boyfriend, a Panamanian, and decided Panama had all the elements to foster and support her pioneering spirit. She was right, and nearly 5 years later, she seeks to share the real Panama with you.
Ellen waited for her Spanish to advance to the point that she could act as a liaison for those wishing to immigrate (sort of like Stephen F. Austin, himself, the founder of her hometown Nacogdoches). Ellen’s Spanish is self taught- with the help of her now defunct ex-husband. One day, she decided that if she was going to be an entrepreneur she had to learn about money- how it works, and how it dysfunctions. The Universe granted her a job working for The Venture Resource Group as their Executive Coordinator and apprentice Offshore Financial Consultant.
During this first three years in Panama City, Ellen became very familiar with the San Blas islands (365 tiny Caribbean islands between Panama City and Colombia). This is because her husband’s grandfather was a beloved liaison for the Kuna Indian Government with the Panamanian Government during the 1970s. With this ace, they came to know much of San Blas and still enjoy excellent relations and open doors to whatever resource you may need in the Kuna Comarca.
Having disdain for the concrete jungle and city life, and bringing an end to her marriage, Ellen collected her cajones and ventured off to the land of flowers and fertility where she could learn to create food safety for herself and enjoy the tranquil bounty of mountains and flowers near Boquete Panama. She attempted for one more year to work with her husband in a business capacity within the budget travel industry which lead her to the awesome Chester Kroeger, owner of the now famous Casa Verde Hostel & Guesthouse in Bocas del Toro Panama. From inception, she worked with Chester to change a so-so guesthouse with all the right bones into what is now a highly coveted upper-class backpacker hostel with a fun sustainably priced bar and restaurant known as La Mama Loca. She remains exceedingly grateful to Chester for having always listened to her great ideas and for being a man of action and confidence.
Ellen basically travels Panama, exploring and discovering new hidden gems, collecting contacts and noting which businesses fit certain criteria. She is a collector of resources and resolves to unite and network those excellent businesses in an effort to create sustainability and quality tourism in Panama. Ellen’s criteria for judging always include: Good Vibes?, Nice Decoration?, Organized Business?, Quality Beds for Couples? hint hint, Work station with plug-ins?, Owner Ethics, Excellence in Customer Service, Access to Facilities.
Ellen is not a backpacker, but she is a budget traveler with high standards. This said, she is not a 5 star luxury kind of gal, and if you are looking for recommendations for all inclusive resorts or 4 & 5 star standards, please consult with Ursula Keiner Ford at the Panama Travel Group instead.
